Jarvis Street Baptist Church

Jarvis Street Baptist Church has it origins in a small group of people who first gathered in October 1818. In 1875 they moved to the current location at 130 Gerrard Street East, corner of Jarvis and Gerrard Streets. The church was the first church in Canada to be designed with a U-shaped galleried auditorium. A fire in 1938 destroyed much of the church building; following the fire the church was substantially altered by architects Horwood and White. I have passed by this church probably more than a thousand times but had never been inside, so I took advantage of it being open to the public for Doors Open Toronto this year.
