The Royal Tyrrell Museum

This Museum is Canada’s only museum dedicated exclusively to the science of paleontology. The Tyrrell houses one of the world’s largest display of dinosaur fossils and bones, and is highly respected worldwide for its research and collections. The museum is named in honour of Joseph Burr Tyrrell, a geologist who accidentally discovered the first reported dinosaur fossil in the Red Deer River valley in 1884 while searching for coal seams. The museum opened on September 25, 1985 and was given "Royal" status in 1990.
