Abbazia di Sant'Antimo

The Abbey of Sant’Antimo is an ancient abbey inhabited over the centuries by Benedictine monks and founded, according to legend, by the emperor Charlemagne. The church, built in the 12th century, is considered one of the masterpieces of medieval architecture. After many years of disuse, the abbey was reoccupied in 1992 by a small community of Premonstratensian Canons Regular. Since January 2016, the occupants are a community of monks of the Olivetan Benedictine order.
